require a minimum cart for a promo to fire

for promos that only make sense on bigger carts — "$20 off orders over $100." min-subtotal stops the promo from firing on a $30 invoice and giving away most of your margin.

3 steps~2 min
  1. 1

open the promo and set min subtotal

the field accepts a dollar amount. anything below it rejects the code at checkout with a friendly "add $X more to qualify" message.

  2. 2

    the customer sees the threshold

on pawpaw checkout, if the cart is under the threshold, the customer is told how much more they need. some operators see this push average order value up.

  3. 3

    leave blank for any-cart promos

small evergreen offers ("new customer 10% off") don't need a minimum — set it to nothing.

    tip

for bogo-style promos, set the minimum to the price of one item. that way the customer can't redeem on a single cheap item and trigger a free expensive item.
