set an expiry — and check your state law first

you can set a card to expire after a window (90 / 180 / 365 days). some states ban gift-card expiry entirely. check before you set one.

3 steps~2 min
  1. 1

    open program settings

    the program-level settings panel.

  2. 2

set the expiry window in days

180 days is common. 365 is generous. shorter than 90 is hard to defend if a customer complains.

  3. 3

    double-check your state's gift-card law before saving

in many u.s. states, gift cards legally cannot expire (or have a 5-year minimum, or expire only after 12+ months of no use). google "<your state> gift card expiration law" before turning this on. when in doubt, leave expiry off — outstanding balances aren't bad if your customers are using them.

    tip

expiring a card you took money for can be illegal depending on the state. it's not just a customer-relations call — it's a compliance call. err toward no expiry.
