categorize vendors so the list stays usable

ten vendors fit on one screen. fifty don't. categories (materials, services, software, fuel, professional, etc.) split the list into rooms you can actually scan.

3 steps~2 min
  1. 1

set a category when you add a vendor

the category dropdown sits right in the new-vendor form. pick the closest fit — you can change it later.

  2. 2

filter by category from the list

the catfish list has filter chips for each category. one click narrows you to just "materials" or just "software."

  3. 3

    use it for spend analysis

categories also make the trailing-12-month spend report readable. "$48k on materials, $14k on software" tells you where the money goes way faster than 60 line items in alpha order.

    tip

if none of the built-in categories fit (you have a weird supplier — like "livestock feed"), pick "other" and put the real category in the notes field. catfish doesn't support custom categories yet.
