set an expiration on a share link

for sensitive files (contracts, financials, customer info), don't leave the share link working forever. expiring links automatically stop working after a date you set.

3 steps~2 min
  1. 1

    share the file as usual

click the three-dot menu on the file row, then "share". the share dialog opens.

  2. 2

turn on "set an expiration date"

the toggle is right below the share link. pick a date (defaults to 30 days from today). the recipient can access the file freely up to that date — after, the link returns a 404.

  3. 3

    send the link

the link works exactly the same way for the recipient. no countdown shown, no warning — just stops working when the date passes. you can extend the expiration anytime from the file's detail panel.

    tip

for contracts and one-time deliverables, 30 days is plenty. for customer-portal type files (a hand-off package), use 90 days so they have time to download. avoid "never expires" for anything you wouldn't want a third party stumbling on a year later.
